CORONA VIRUS HIBERNATION: ARE WE TO SLEEP OR SHUTDOWN AS A CHURCH

Corona virus has brought the world to a standstill; economies, health care, education, social life, religion, travel and even human interactions like hugs and handshake has all been brought under undue pressure.

Boy! We have all cracked.

Esther 4:14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place, but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed; and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

GROSS DARKNESS = FEAR

The Bible talks about when gross darkness will cover the people, implying a state when the people will be gripped with fear. Corona virus brings with it fear which is satan’s number 1 weapon. His weapon to isolate us and unsettle our corporate anointing. Instead of hope being in the air, all we hear is corona virus hibernation.

SLEEP OR SHUT DOWN

But what does the Bible have for us about this corona virus hibernation? Should we all go to sleep or should we all shut down especially as a church and as believers? To answer this question of corona virus hibernation, I have written this article based on the scriptures showing what God expects from us during this crisis.

BORN WITH PURPOSE

Every one is born with a purpose and it is our duty to discover it, develop it and deploy it. At every point in history, humanity and life in general is in need of someone’s purpose being not just to manifest but to be deployed towards fulfillment.

SELF SUSTAINING WORLD

God created the universe to be self-sustaining. The water cycle shows us a self-healing process. What you need is in someone’s hand, and what another person need is in your own hands. Nobody is left with nothing to offer. We never stop to lay this role even when we are dead and long forgotten, we still provide fossil fuel…interesting huh?

WHAT’S YOUR ROLE?

The scriptures in Romans 8:19 about the whole creation groaning in earnest for the manifestation of the sons of God. The world is waiting for the manifestation of our purpose, of our role per time here on earth especially during this corona virus global crisis.

YOUR ROLE PER TIME

Purpose can also be expressed as our role per time. Your role in a particular location or office is not exactly the same in another location or office. As humans, we can not be in 2 different locations at the same time. So, per time, we are limited to be in a particular place playing a particular role.

NO ROLE PLAY?

What then happens when we don’t play this role? The system is altered and misalignment takes place. Since natural life does not have room for vacuum-nature then begins its self-healing process by quickly shopping for a replacement. Looking for someone who is ready to play this role immediately. This is the scenario the scriptures painted in Luke 19:40 where Jesus told the pharisees that if His disciples are to stop to play their roles at the moment, that stones will immediately be raised to play that role. This is because the system should not be allowed to break or be destabilized.

WHY HOLD YOUR PEACE?

In my focal scripture for this blog, it paints a picture guiding this discuss: Mordecai rebuked Esther not to hold her peace. It wasn’t time for her to hold her peace because if she did, she would not be able to play her role for that time. This brings us back to one of my opening statement for this discuss: “everyone is born with a purpose”.

WHAT’S YOUR GENUINE REASON?

Esther became a queen in a pagan land for a reason. God positioned her there to play a role for God’s people. It was not for her and her family to escape poverty and hardship to live in royal opulence.

Esther had a genuine reason to hold her peace at that time because it was not lawful for to barge into the king uninvited; an offence which guarantees a penalty of death. But it is good to see that God not only gives us a purpose, but He also gives us a constant reminder to our purpose.

AN ALARM FOR YOUR PURPOSE

God is seen to always assign someone to help us or to remind us of our roles per time. We see this in the person of Aaron to Moses, Caleb to Joshua, Mary to Jesus and Mordecai to Esther.

Mordecai spared no time to remind Esther of her place and what would happen if she keeps mute and allows her purpose to hibernate. He told her that solution will come from another place and she will be discarded because another will now be playing her role.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, have you relegated your role as a believer, as a church to the background of holding your peace? Do you think you have a genuine excuse just like Esther thought she did because the government has put restrictions to Church meetings and social gatherings? By all means, do not hold your peace, and by all means express your roles for this time. Corona virus hibernation is not a time to sleep or shutdown but a time to bring hope to a people covered with the gross darkness of fear.

The gospel has always stood the test of time and all manner of global crisis. This is such a time for the gospel to find expression and it cannot happen if you hold your peace. The whole world is waiting for the manifestation of your role for this time. Let the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ shine through this crisis. Surely, we know that all things are working together for our good.
